Dreaming of Your Scottish Highland Wedding?

ree

We are incredibly fortunate to call the Cairngorms and the Scottish Highlands, our home. Surrounded by towering mountains, ancient Caledonian pine forests, sparkling lochs, and heather hills, it is nature at its most beautiful. We truly believe there is no place more romantic and magical to have your wedding than the Scottish Highlands.

As we have both had our own weddings here, we can speak from experience. The Highlands are a place of unparalleled beauty and deep tradition, making it the perfect setting for your big day.

Our Own Highland Weddings: A Personal Touch

For Natasha, it was a winter wedding on the Isle of Skye with an intimate ceremony on The Quiraing, with sweeping views of the jagged peaks of the Trotternish Ridge. The wild Scottish weather gave us everything, sunshine, hail, wind, and rain, all in a single day. It only added to the magic of the day, and we embraced the wild Scottish beauty of it all with bagpipes, a handfasting ceremony and a shared quaich toast. Belle Art Photography captured it all perfectly, preserving every breathtaking moment of the day.

Brittney’s wedding took place in a charming, rustic barn at her husband’s family home in the heart of the

Cairngorms. They embraced Scottish traditions with Scottish fiddle music for the ceremony and a lively ceilidh band for the reception. Local suppliers, from florists to caterers, helped bring the day to life, while whisky barrel decor and personalised whisky dram glasses added a unique Highland touch. It was a celebration full of warmth, beauty, and true Highland spirit all captured by the amazing Chloe Burns Photography.

Highland Wedding Traditions We Love

It is not just the stunning landscape that makes a Highland wedding unforgettable, it is also the rich traditions that add a personal, meaningful touch to your celebration. Here are some of our favourite Highland elements that we love to include:

Tartan: Whether it’s a kilt, a sash, or even a table runner, incorporating tartan into your wedding adds a bold, symbolic layer. You don’t need Scottish heritage to embrace tartan, there are beautiful universal patterns to choose from that will make your wedding feel even more personal.

Bagpipes: Imagine walking down the aisle with the iconic sound of bagpipes echoing through the hills. Whether you are getting married outdoors or in an intimate indoor setting, nothing quite compares to the magic of bagpipes in the air.

Handfasting: This ancient Celtic ritual involves binding your hands with ribbons or tartan as a symbol of unity during the ceremony. It is a powerful and symbolic way to express your vows to one another.

Quaich Toast: A traditional Scottish wedding wouldn’t be complete without a Quaich ceremony. This beautiful ritual involves sharing a drink from a two-handled cup, symbolising the union of two families. It is a wonderful way to celebrate your new life together and enjoy some Scottish Whisky!

Four Seasons of Romance

What makes planning a wedding in the Scottish Highlands even more special is how dramatically the landscape changes with the seasons. Each one offers something truly unique:

  • Spring: Picture wildflowers blooming in meadows, and the promise of new beginnings.

  • Summer: Long golden evenings and the opportunity to celebrate outdoors beneath the Highland sky.

  • Autumn: Amber and crimson leaves turning the forests into a photographer’s dream.

  • Winter: Think snowy landscapes, roaring fires, and candlelit ceremonies that make you feel like you have stepped into a Highland fairytale.

No matter when you choose to marry, the Scottish Highlands will offer you a wedding backdrop like no other.
